BTSync (Resilio Sync)

⚠️ BTSync is deprecated on Bytesized. It has been superseded by Syncthing, which is free, open-source and does not require an account. BTSync remains installable for users who specifically need it.

BTSync (now rebranded as Resilio Sync) is a proprietary peer-to-peer file synchronization tool available for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS and BSD. It can sync files between devices on a local network or over the internet using encrypted P2P technology.

Version history

12th June 2015 — Added support for selecting multiple versions during installation, including BTSync 2.0.

Switching versions

Edit ~/.bysh_versions via FTP, SSH or VNC. Find the line BTSYNC_VERSION=x.x and change it to the version you want, for example:

BTSYNC_VERSION=2.0

Save the file and restart the app from your dashboard.

Troubleshooting

BTSync shows "Invalid Request" on the web interface

Try opening the web interface in a private/incognito browser window, or clear your browser cache.

Tips and tricks

Syncing files from Bytesized to a Seagate Personal Cloud

The Seagate Personal Cloud has limited sync options, which makes BTSync a valid reason to keep it around. To sync:

  1. Share a folder from your Bytesized box and copy the generated key.
  2. On the Seagate Personal Cloud's BTSync interface, select Enter Key or Link and paste it.
  3. When choosing a destination folder, note that your usual folder structure is accessible under /media/Public — save there, as other parts of the file tree are not accessible from outside the device.
