How to Download Files from Your Seedbox (SFTP, Rclone & More)

Why Download from a Seedbox?

Most seedbox users stream via Plex or Jellyfin and never download files locally. But sometimes you need files on your own device:

• Watching offline (flights, commutes)
• Local backup of important media
• Sharing files with someone who doesn't have Plex access
• Moving files to a NAS or external drive

Method 1: SFTP (Most Common)

SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) is the standard way to download files from a seedbox. It's encrypted, reliable, and works with any SFTP client.

Connection Details

On Bytesized, your SFTP connection details are in the dashboard:

• Host: Your server hostname
• Port: Shown in dashboard (usually 22)
• Username: Your Bytesized username
• Password: Your Bytesized password

Speed Tips

SFTP speed depends on your home internet connection, not the seedbox. To maximize:

• Use multi-segment downloads (WinSCP supports this) — downloads multiple parts simultaneously
• Enable compression for text files (not useful for already-compressed media)
• Set transfer buffer to maximum in your client settings
• Close other bandwidth-heavy applications during large transfers

Method 2: Rclone Sync (Best for Regular Transfers)

Rclone can sync specific folders from your seedbox to your local machine or cloud storage.

• Sync, not just copy: Only transfers new or changed files
• Resumable: Interrupted transfers continue from where they stopped
• Scriptable: Automate with cron jobs

Filebrowser is a web-based file manager. Install it from the Bytesized Panel and access your files through a browser — no SFTP client needed.

• Download individual files or folders as ZIP

Best for: Quick one-off downloads, sharing files with others, managing files from devices where you can't install SFTP software.

Method 4: HTTP Direct Download

Some seedbox apps expose files via HTTP. Your torrent client's web interface often provides direct download links for completed files. Fast and works in any browser, but less practical for large batches.
