Vaultwarden on a Seedbox: Your Own Password Manager, One Click

A password manager is the one self-hosted app that should never live on a machine under your desk. Vaultwarden installs on your appbox in one click, with HTTPS handled for you, and every official Bitwarden app connects to it.

What Vaultwarden Is

Vaultwarden is a lightweight, self-hosted server that speaks the Bitwarden protocol. You keep using the official Bitwarden apps and browser extensions on all your devices; they just sync against your own server instead of Bitwarden's cloud. Passwords, secure notes, and TOTP codes, all under your control.

It is also the one self-hosted app where hosting matters most. A password manager on a home server behind a flaky router is a liability; you want it always reachable, always on HTTPS, and not dependent on your home internet. That is exactly what an appbox gives you.

Installing It

Open the Bytesized Panel, find Vaultwarden in the app catalog, click install. That is genuinely the whole procedure: the panel starts the container, wires up the routing, and provisions your account.

Your server lives at vaultwarden.USERNAME.SERVER.bysh.me (your panel username and server name, both shown on your appbox page), with a real HTTPS certificate already in place.

Logging In

Vaultwarden accounts use an email address as the login. Your account is created at install time as [email protected] with the password shown on the Vaultwarden tile on your appbox page. That address is just your login name; nothing is mailed to it.

Sign in once on the web UI to check everything works, then connect your devices.

Connecting the Bitwarden Apps

In any official Bitwarden app or browser extension, before logging in, look for the region or server selector and choose self-hosted, then enter your server URL:

https://vaultwarden.USERNAME.SERVER.bysh.me

Then log in with the same email and password as the web UI. Everything syncs: vault entries, folders, TOTP, the lot.
