Bazarr: Automatic Subtitles for Your Seedbox Media Library

Never hunt for subtitles again. Bazarr monitors your library and downloads matching subtitles automatically in any language.

The Subtitle Problem

You've automated downloads with Sonarr and Radarr. Media flows into Plex or Jellyfin automatically. But subtitles? That's still a manual hunt — downloading SRT files, renaming them, placing them in the right folder.

Bazarr solves this. It monitors your Sonarr and Radarr libraries and automatically downloads matching subtitles for every movie and episode.

Setup on Bytesized

  1. Install Bazarr from the dashboard (one-click)
  2. Connect to Sonarr and Radarr (Settings → Sonarr / Radarr — enter the API keys from your Arr apps)
  3. Add subtitle providers
  4. Set your preferred languages
  5. Bazarr scans your library and starts downloading

Subtitle Providers

Bazarr searches multiple subtitle sources. Enable the ones relevant to your languages:

Provider Languages Notes
OpenSubtitles.com 60+ languages Largest database. Free account required.
Subscene Many languages Good for Asian languages
Addic7ed European languages TV-focused, quality translations
Podnapisi European languages Good Slavic language coverage
Subdivx Spanish Best for Latin American Spanish
Supersubtitles Hungarian Dedicated Hungarian source

Tip: Enable 2-3 providers for your language. Bazarr searches all of them and picks the best match based on sync score.

Language Configuration

Under Settings → Languages:

  1. Add your primary language (e.g., Dutch, German, Portuguese)
  2. Optionally add English as a fallback
  3. Set Single Language mode if you only want one subtitle track

Bazarr can download subtitles in multiple languages simultaneously — useful if your household speaks different languages.

How Matching Works

Bazarr matches subtitles by:

  1. Release name: Exact match with the video file's release group and source
  2. Hash matching: Some providers use file hash for exact sync
  3. Fuzzy matching: Falls back to approximate name matching

After downloading, Bazarr scores each subtitle for sync accuracy. If the score is below your threshold, it keeps looking.

Hearing Impaired & Forced Subtitles

Integration with Plex & Jellyfin

Downloaded subtitles are placed next to the video file with the correct naming:

Movie Name (2024).mkv
Movie Name (2024).en.srt
Movie Name (2024).nl.srt

Plex and Jellyfin detect them automatically. No manual library refresh needed — the subtitle appears as a selectable track.

Anime Subtitles

Anime is a special case. Most fansub releases already include high-quality subtitles (soft-subbed in ASS/SSA format). Bazarr is most useful as a fallback for:
