What Radarr Does

Radarr is the movie equivalent of Sonarr. Add movies to your watchlist, and Radarr handles the rest:

1. Searches indexers for available releases
2. Picks the best quality based on your preferences
3. Sends it to your download client
4. Renames and organizes the file (Movie Name (Year)/Movie Name (Year).mkv)
5. Notifies Plex or Jellyfin — the movie appears in your library

Setup on Bytesized

Install Radarr from the dashboard (one click). Pre-configured to work with your download client.

Connect to Prowlarr

Like Sonarr, Radarr gets its indexers from Prowlarr. Configure indexers once in Prowlarr and they appear in both Sonarr and Radarr.

Add Movies

Three ways to add movies:

1. Search: Click Add New, search by title, set quality profile, add
2. Lists: Connect to Trakt, IMDB, or Plex watchlists. Movies you add there automatically appear in Radarr.
3. Discover: Browse trending and popular movies from within Radarr

Watchlist Integration

The most powerful feature: connect your Plex Watchlist or Trakt account. When you add a movie to your watchlist (from your phone, IMDB, or the Plex app), Radarr picks it up and downloads it automatically.

Combined with Seerr, friends and family can request movies too.

Quality Profiles

Custom Formats: Getting the Best Releases

Radarr's custom formats score releases so you always get the best available:

• Movie Versions: Prefer Director's Cut, IMAX Enhanced, Extended over theatrical
• Audio: Prefer Atmos, TrueHD, DTS-HD MA
• HDR: Score Dolby Vision, HDR10+ correctly
• Unwanted: Block cam recordings, telecines, low-quality re-encodes
• Release Groups: Score trusted groups (FraMeSToR, BHDStudio) higher

Upgrade Logic

Radarr automatically replaces files when better releases appear:

• Movie releases as WEB-DL on streaming day → Radarr grabs it
• Bluray comes out 3 months later → Radarr upgrades to Bluray quality
• Remux appears → Radarr upgrades again (if your profile allows it)

Old files are deleted. No manual management needed.

Tips

Availability setting: Set to "Announced" for immediate monitoring, or "In Cinemas" / "Physical/Web" to wait for legitimate releases.

Minimum custom format score: Set a minimum score in your quality profile to reject low-quality releases even if they're the right resolution.

Root folders: Use /data/Movies/ and ensure Plex/Jellyfin points to the same path.
