What Lidarr Does

Lidarr is the music member of the Arr family. It monitors your favorite artists, finds new album releases, downloads them in your preferred quality, and organizes your music library.

Think of it as Sonarr for music:

1. Add artists you want to follow
2. Lidarr monitors for new releases and finds existing albums
3. Downloads via your torrent client or Usenet
4. Renames and organizes files by Artist/Album/Track structure
5. Plex, Jellyfin, or Plexamp picks them up

Setup on Bytesized

Install Lidarr from the dashboard (one click). Connect it to Prowlarr for indexers and your download client.

Root Folder

Set your music root folder to /data/Music/. Point your media server's music library to the same path.

Quality Profiles

Adding Artists

Search by artist name. Lidarr uses MusicBrainz for metadata, which has excellent coverage of most genres. Select which albums you want (all, future only, or specific ones) and set the quality profile.

Metadata and Organization

Lidarr renames files following a clean structure:

/Music/Artist Name/Album Name (Year)/01 - Track Name.flac

It also embeds metadata tags (artist, album, track number, artwork) into the audio files. Your media server reads these for a polished library experience.

Plexamp Integration

If you use Plex, Plexamp is the dedicated music player — genuinely excellent with smart playlists, loudness leveling, and offline sync. Lidarr keeps your library fed, Plexamp makes it shine.
